Fees, Insurance, and Client Policies
Rates & Insurance
Many clients choose to work with me on a private-pay basis. Working outside of insurance allows us to focus fully on your goals, values, and pace, without the constraints of insurance documentation and diagnosis requirements. Private pay offers increased flexibility and confidentiality.
My standard rate for individual therapy is $150. My fee is based on the regional market standards for specialized trauma care. I am committed to keeping high-level clinical care accessible. For those facing significant financial barriers, I maintain a limited number of slots at a tiered community rate. If my standard rate is not feasible for your current financial situation, please reach out—if a sliding scale slot is not available, we can discuss referral options.
For clients who plan to use insurance, I am currently an in-network provider with Aetna, United Healthcare, MVP, and many Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. Coverage and benefits vary depending on the specific plan.
Late cancellation and no show fee is $85 and is not covered by insurance.
Please note:
Couples therapy is billed directly to the client and is not submitted to insurance. When the focus of couples work is on improving communication, strengthening the relationship, and deepening intimacy, it does not meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis and therefore is not covered by health insurance. For this reason, couples therapy is provided on a private pay basis.
Couples therapy rates are $180 for the initial session and $165 ongoing.
EMDR Intensives are a private-pay service and are not currently covered as a packaged program by insurance providers.
Insurance companies typically authorize therapy in 45-to-55-minute increments. Because an intensive is an accelerated, multi-hour treatment model designed for deep resolution, it falls outside the standard "medical necessity" billing codes used by most insurance panels.
Here is what you need to know about your investment:
Out-of-Network Reimbursement: Upon request, I can provide you with a Superbill (a specialized receipt) for the portions of our time together that qualify as traditional therapy.
The "90837" Code: Most insurers will only reimburse for one 55-minute session (CPT code 90837) per day. This means that while you may receive a partial reimbursement for one hour of the intensive, the remaining hours and the specialized workbook are your financial responsibility.
HSA/FSA Eligibility: You may be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for the intensive, as it is a legitimate clinical service. I recommend checking with your plan administrator beforehand to confirm their specific requirements.
Why Private Pay? By stepping outside the insurance model for this specific service, we have the freedom to follow your nervous system's lead without being constrained by 55-minute time limits or external "progress" requirements. This allows us to maintain the momentum necessary for deep-sea resolution.
Scheduling
In order to provide fair and consistent services to clients, appointments are offered on a weekly or biweekly routine basis for most clients. For long-term and stable clients in maintenance therapy, monthly slots are available. Weekly or bi-weekly appointments are typically the most helpful to promote positive outcomes, and in order to establish the therapeutic relationship, I encourage weekly appointments for the first several sessions.
All clients are required to give 24 hours notification for cancellations, or are otherwise considered “late cancellations.” Barring emergencies, clients are responsible for a $85 fee for late cancellations. Insurance does not reimburse for any unattended sessions.
Fees are never charged if the clinician is unable to attend sessions.

I do not provide any crisis services. If you are having a mental health emergency, please contact one of the following: 988, your local emergency department, or in Triangle, NC: Mobile Crisis, Alliance Behavioral Health Care, or Cardinal Innovations. In Central NY: The Mobile Crisis Assessment Team (MCAT).
Clients are urged to update me about any crisis that has occurred, but be aware that I am not available after business hours.
